Make a short to do list
I would like to include one Do Not Do, when storing your lawnmower. Do Not hang it up! This will drain the crank case oil in to the cylinder, causing a hydraulic lock.
When you do preventive maintenance you will always have less to do on your list.
Always store your equipment with out gas (use a turkey baster to remove gas).
Have your manual in a clear plastic bag.
Have spark plug, air filter/oil filter, and belt(s)type and model no. (this will be of great use when you need to order parts).
Prevent rust. The weather is always changing and moisture is going to cause oxidization. With a little work you can prevent that rust. I recommend Krown Rust prof products in a spray can.
Keep checking your equipments fresh oil, fresh gas, belts, blades and bolts, and tire pressure.
Store your Batterie in side a cool vented room on a pice of wood, not on concrete.
